How a church found me!

God Orchestrated - From Scotland to Myrtle Beach

Often when we seek God we want him to reveal ahead of time what he has planned for our lives. Most of the time however, we don't get to see it until some time, much later, when God is ready.  Each person who comes into our lives serves some kind of purpose in God's plan.  We may not know there was a purpose, nor may we ever know if the purpose was fulfilled.  But some times God's orchestration is so obvious there is no other explanation but the obvious God.

In 2011 I went on a mission trip to Scotland from Colorado.  The mission was to help a new church "Mosaic" build a worship team.  This church was not about a building, their mission was to reach people for Christ and have them join life groups that would meet in people's homes throughout the city.  Church buildings were largely unused or had been repurposed into other types of establishments.  In order to reach people they would meet in pubs and restaurants that had a large enough space and a way for us to play music. On that trip I met a young man named Duncan Blair.  He was just 18 years old when I met him.  We all friended each other on Facebook as did a friend back home who wanted to follow us on the trip.  My friend Linda is 20 years older than I am, and was a neighbor and friend and now Duncan was on her list of new friends on Facebook. Because I am old enough to be Duncan's mother, although we were Facebook friends, after that trip on occasion I would check in on him but most of the time I wasn't really keeping up with what was going on in Duncan's life, but Linda was!

For the last 9 years Linda would give me updates on what was going on with Duncan.  She immediately took a liking to him, she liked the type of things he posted on Facebook and when he got a girl friend, she had to tell me, when he got engage, she had to tell me, when he got married she had to tell me. She never commented or inserted herself into Duncan's posts but she loved watching what God was doing in Duncan's life.

When all the doors closed in Colorado and my move to Myrtle Beach was about to become permanent and immediate, Linda said to me that she knew she should be upset about my leaving but for some reason she was not.  She felt God had orchestrated this whole thing and it was obvious to her. When I arrived here in March, about a month after I arrived, Linda directed me to Duncan's Facebook page. She said you have to go read Duncan's Facebook page!  I chuckled and went to see what she was talking about.  To my shock and amazement, Duncan had posted his pending move to of all places Myrtle Beach!

I quickly messaged Duncan and started to inquire about his move and he shared he was going to be part of a church plant team for Rise Community Church here. Because I arrived in March, I had no access to a church they were all shut down.  But this connection with Duncan brought a church to me. I have now joined Duncan on this journey and it has been made clear to me, that God makes no mistakes about his calling me to Myrtle Beach.  A God ordained move, and orchestration he made over a nine year period, growing both of us in preparation for this journey.  As for Linda, who is now 82, I told her that you never know how God is going to use you, and that he clearly had a purpose in using Linda to keep track of Duncan because he knew I would not.

Do you see God orchestrating things in your life?  Feel free to join us on this journey to share the gospel.  You can partner with us by going to Rise Community Church .
